PBW's Book(s) of the Month

Due to the holiday and the computer crash I didn't have a chance to post my pick as book of the month for June. I also spent a couple days dithering before I decided my pick would have to be a tie between two titles I read last month, and they are:

Pick#1 is Derelict by LJ Cohen, my latest revisited read, which I thought was spectacular the first time I read it last year.

Since Derelict wasn't a new read for me I thought I should also choose something from the new books I read last month, which is why pick#2 for June is In a French Kitchen ~ Tales and Traditions of Everyday Home Cooking in France by Susan Herrmann Loomis, which I received as an ARC and reviewed as part of LT's Early Reviewers program.

So what have you all been reading? Any recommendations you want to make? Let us know in comments.

  1. Resistance Is Futile by Jenny Colgan. SF set among a bunch of oddball mathematicians in Cambridge University. It's fun, clever, geeky, light and dark and light and dark again, and has a brave ending. My best read this year.

Naomi Novik's Uprooted is an amazing book. I highly recommend it.

  3. I finished my re-read of J D Robb's In Death series, and must say they were just as good second time round - and even though there were 44 books I didn't get bored once. Since then I've re-read on audio book Undead & Unwed/Undead & Unemployed/Undead & Unappreciated by MaryJanice Davidson & Dark Lover by J R Ward. New reads have been Songs of Midnight Embers & Never More by Dana Marie Bell, Back to You by Lauren Dane and I'm now midway through Lauren Dane's new book Opening Up, the first book in her Ink & Chrome series. Up next is Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh & Cat's Lair by Christine Feehan. The best thing though is discovering I can doing my sewing / quilting while enjoying an audio book - result!

  4. Finished listening to Derelict on my trip to/from Arizona and loved it. Just finished book 2 in the J. A. Pitts trilogy Honeyed Words (female blacksmith fighting dragons in today's world with her reforged sword).

  5. I just finished Skin Game by Jim Butcher. I loved it!

  6. Crooks and Straights by Masha du Toit. Fantasy/magical realism set in South Africa. Think Wrinkle in Time meets Pan's Labyrinth. Definitely on of my top reads of 2015.

(And thank you! You honor me.)
