By Hand

Beautiful handmade books are rare things these days. Here's the intricate process of making one, via Russian publisher Lamaritis Publishing House (contains background music, for those of you at work):

    1. I was surprised at how much handwork they do, Judy. Incredible to watch, for sure.

  2. What a wonderful video. It makes me so sad to think about the dying art of handmade books and that someday, books may just be no more. I remember the Star Trek movie Wrath of Kahn where Kirk is reading a book and McCoy asks why he bothers, they're antiquated and almost forgotten things. I thought at the time, Oh, that won't ever happen. But I was younger and more idealistic then. I can see that happening sometime in the future now. Sad.

    1. I think somewhere there will always be someone making books, Theo. Maybe not in mass quantities (and it makes me wonder if we'll go backwards and end up having our books made by monks in monasteries) but there are too many people who appreciate physical books for them to die out altogether.
