NaNoWriMo 2012

The folks at NaNoWriMo have posted the web badges for 2012, and here they are:

I've uploaded these to my Photobucket account so everyone is welcome to use them; hover your cursor over the one you want to get the image link.

As we have less than a month to prepare, from now until November 1st I'll be putting up posts on NaNoWriMo-related topics a couple times per week.  I will also be officially joining in this year as a participant.  As I work on my NaNo novel I'm planning to post what I finish online daily over on the stories blog for anyone wants to follow along and see how I write and edit a book day by day.

Next week I will be asking my visitors to vote for the sort of story they'd like me to do for NaNoWriMo -- yes, you all are going to be the ones to decide what I write -- so if you're interested in voting, think about it and stayed tuned.

  1. I spent all afternoon yesterday fleshing out my characters for the NaNo novel. I'm a true pantser, but this year I thought I would listen to you for a change and try preparation. I always do my research on the facts and figures, but rarely get so involved with character history beforehand...that usually comes as I write.

Buy funny thing. It's working! As I come up with the backstories, it triggers other ideas that bring out plot details. Go figure.

Couple of years ago when you did NaNo, I used to check your word count every day and try to match it. I'm pretty sure my secret competition with you is how I got through that year.

    1. I'm glad a little preparation is proving useful for you -- pantsers have it tough, and anything I can offer you all that helps makes me a happy gal. :)

All competition welcome this year, too. NaNo's wonderful that way.

Thanks for sharing with us. :-)

    1. My pleasure. I'm still working out the logistics, but I think the way I'll go is to post the first draft on the stories blog and then my edits with tracked changes on my Google Docs account.

You always have the best nano resources! I'm excited to follow along with your story -- how generous of you to share your creative process with us. I'm looking forward to nano, last year was such a breakthrough for me in my own process.

  5. May be a silly question- I follow and love your photos blog. Have I been missing the stories blog, or is this something new you're creating? If the former (and I suppose the latter too :) ), can you post the link? Thanks! I'm not a writer, but I hugely admire those who do NaNoWriMo, and will be clapping wildly from the sidelines.

    1. Not a silly question at all. Some years back the perpetually disgruntled people were griping about authors posting work on their blogs (for some reason this was offensive to the Blog Police; don't ask me why), so I set up the stories blog as a place to post excerpts. I've also used it for my NaNoWriMo notes when I've participated in the past. I'll put up links in November, but if you want to check out the archives now the URL is http://pbwstories.blogspot.com/
